Vacheron Constantin is asking one of travel’s oldest questions—where to next? Its answer arrives in the form of the Overseas Dual Time Cardinal Points, a four-watch collection that transforms the compass into a design language. White represents the frozen North, brown the vast plains of the South, green the forests and tropical landscapes of the West, and blue the Eastern horizon where ocean and sky meet.

The collection follows a path first explored in 2019, when Vacheron Constantin created a titanium Overseas Dual Time prototype for photographer and mountaineer Cory Richards to wear during his third Everest ascent. That watch later inspired the 150-piece Overseas Chronograph “Everest” and Dual Time “Everest” editions released in 2021, while the new Cardinal Points series carries the concept in four fresh directions.

As Richards explains, “What resonates most deeply is the idea that we are constantly in motion. That’s what we as humans do by our very nature.” Whether the journey is internal or external, Richards sees the cardinal points as guides that help us discover both the world and ourselves.

Built around a lightweight 41mm titanium case and integrated bracelet, each watch is powered by the self-winding Calibre 5110 DT/3, combining a second time zone, day-and-night display and date for life across borders. The Hallmark of Geneva provides further assurance of provenance, precision, reliability and traditional finishing, while the interchangeable bracelet and rubber straps prepare the watch for everything from long-haul travel to more demanding adventures.

Let’s take a closer look at how Vacheron Constantin has turned four points on a compass into one of its most purposeful Overseas releases yet.

In-House Calibre 5110 DT/3

First off, the four dial colours may point towards different destinations, but every Cardinal Points reference is powered by the same in-house self-winding Calibre 5110 DT/3. Developed with travellers in mind, the movement displays local time alongside an arrow-tipped orange hand for home time, accompanied by a matching day-and-night indicator. A pointer date at 6 o’clock remains synchronized with local time and can be corrected using the dedicated pusher at 4 o’clock, while the two time zones can be adjusted through the crown. Measuring 30.6mm across and 6mm thick, the calibre comprises 234 components and 37 jewels, runs at 4Hz and provides approximately 60 hours of power reserve.

Visible through the sapphire crystal caseback, the movement features dark-grey NAC-treated bridges that complement the titanium exterior and contrast with the exposed gear train. Côtes de Genève decorate the visible bridges, perlage extends across the mainplate and even onto areas hidden after assembly, and carefully bevelled component edges produce polished facets that catch the light. A 22K 3N yellow-gold winding rotor engraved with the Overseas compass rose completes the view. At the same time, the Hallmark of Geneva confirms the watch’s provenance and its adherence to demanding standards of precision, reliability and traditional finishing.

The shared calibre is not the only feature connecting these four watches, as each uses the same 41mm titanium case measuring 12.2mm thick. Titanium was chosen because it is strong, rust-resistant, and light, making the watch much more comfortable than its size might suggest. A screw-down crown, sapphire crystal, transparent caseback and 150 metres of water resistance offer the practical features expected of a serious travel watch, while the caseback also has an antimagnetic mark.

Vacheron Constantin has kept the familiar design of the Overseas, including the six-sided bezel with cutout sections that remind you of the arms of the Maltese cross. A matte dark grey finish sets the bezel, crown and pusher ring apart from the lighter titanium case, while the mix of polished and satin-brushed surfaces stops the watch from looking too plain. The result balances a tough sports watch with the more elegant finish expected from the Maison.

Each model represents a different compass point and landscape, beginning with the white-dial North edition inspired by frozen regions, while the brown South watch recalls continents and open plains, and the blue East version evokes the horizon where ocean and sky meet. Completing the quartet is the green West model, which takes its identity from dense forests and tropical jungles.

Although the colours differ, every dial has the same layered design, with a textured centre to reduce glare, a circular satin-finished inner minute track and a shiny outer seconds track marked every five seconds. The pointer-date counter at 6 o’clock has a spiral pattern, while the hour markers and local-time hands are made from 18K white gold and filled with blue Super-LumiNova to be visible in the dark. Orange is used for the arrow-tipped home-time hand and the matching day-and-night indicator at 9 o’clock, making them stand out against all four backgrounds.

The built-in titanium bracelet continues the Maltese-cross theme with its polished and satin-finished links and closes with a three-blade folding clasp made from titanium and stainless steel. Vacheron Constantin’s Easy-fit system lets you make small wrist adjustments without taking out a link, while the tool-free swap system allows the bracelet to be changed in seconds. Every watch also comes with an orange rubber strap with a Maltese-cross-inspired texture and a second rubber strap matching its dial colour, finished with a woven-style pattern and contrasting orange stitching.

As mentioned above, all four models are powered by the Calibre 5110 DT/3, an automatic movement running at 4Hz with 37 jewels, 234 parts and about 60 hours of power reserve. Along with its second-time-zone display, day-and-night indicator, local pointer date and Hallmark of Geneva certification, the features are truly designed for frequent travel rather than just using explorer-style details. The Cardinal Points series is more than just four new dial colours, combining useful functions, light construction and great versatility in one Overseas design.
