Ressence’s newest release comes with a strong design pedigree, as the brand partners with industrial design legend Marc Newson to launch the TYPE 3 MN. This watch takes Ressence’s unconventional style even further, challenging the way we experience time on the wrist. With its innovative ROCS system and oil-filled, fluid displays, Ressence continues to push the boundaries of traditional watchmaking. This collaboration feels like the next logical step for the brand.

This partnership stands out because both Ressence and Newson share a similar design philosophy. Ressence is known for mechanical innovation, while Newson brings years of experience in aviation, automotive, and product design, as both focus on clean, functional forms with strong visual appeal. The TYPE 3 MN reflects this balance, using a distinctive palette of grey, black, yellow, and soft celadon green with stunning results of a modern watch that is instantly recognizable.

With only 80 pieces available and a price tag of USD $54,500, this watch is meant to stand out, not blend in. It’s a bold statement of top-level design and engineering. This release adds to an already ambitious year for the Belgian brand and confirms its reputation as one of the most innovative names in modern watchmaking.

Two Minds, Shaping Time

This collaboration between Ressence and Marc Newson is built on a shared design philosophy that values clarity, purpose, and restraint instead of unnecessary complexity. Ressence is known for reimagining how time is displayed, using an orbital system rather than traditional hands. Newson, meanwhile, has spent years designing everything from aircraft interiors to everyday objects, always focusing on clean lines and usability. When these two approaches meet, the result feels thoughtful and natural.

This connection is clear in the development of the TYPE 3 MN. Newson worked closely with Ressence founder Benoît Mintiens to bring their ideas together, focusing on true collaboration instead of one side taking control. Newson says the partnership let them combine their approaches in a meaningful way, so both design styles could be present in the same watch without compromise.

“As a longstanding admirer of Benoît’s pioneering engineering and unique approach to watchmaking at Ressence, this collaboration provided a wonderful opportunity to synthesise our approaches. Ressence watches are a technical tour de force and remain unique in the industry. The original TYPE 3 in particular balances clarity with sophistication. With the resulting TYPE 3 MN, the perfect representation of my original vision has been realised; the result of a deeply gratifying, collaborative process.”

Their goal was not just to collaborate but to truly merge two creative worlds into a single, unified result. The TYPE 3 MN shows a shared mindset, not just two separate ideas. Mintiens says bringing Newson into the project was about more than design—it was about seeing what happens when two designers challenge each other to achieve something better.

“I wanted to merge our universes. Knowing Marc Newson’s design universe, I saw a pioneer of industrial-design thinking in fine watchmaking, and that really interested me. I wanted to bring Marc’s and Ressence’s vision of watchmaking into one perfect product. How often do designers work together on one product? In my eyes, one plus one can become more than the sum of its parts.”

Ressence TYPE 3 MN Case

The TYPE 3 MN catches the eye right away with its case, made from Grade 5 titanium and shaped into a smooth ellipse that fits comfortably on the wrist. The design feels intentional and polished, a style Marc Newson has developed over many years in various projects. On this watch, it adds a gentle, almost natural look. The hands have also been updated, giving a subtle reference to his Ikepod designs from the 1990s. This touch adds character without distracting from the rest of the watch.

The watch also keeps the classic Ressence look, with its smooth, pebble-like shape that defines Benoît Mintiens’ style. The domed sapphire crystal is important here, covering an oil-filled chamber that changes how you see the dial and keeps the display clear from nearly any angle. This creates a bold effect that isn’t too complex, making the information seem to float just under the glass, almost as if time is projected onto it.

Ressence TYPE 3 MN Movement

he TYPE 3 MN stands out because of the ROCS, or Ressence Orbital Convex System. Here, it features the latest version, ROCS 3.6, which shows not only hours and minutes but also includes a 180-second timer, day, date, and an oil temperature indicator. Rather than using traditional hands, the watch uses rotating discs that seem to move with life across the dial. The display is always in motion, yet it remains easy to read once you become familiar with it.

Beneath the smooth display is a self-winding mechanical base that offers a 36-hour power reserve and runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour. The movement includes many carefully crafted parts, such as gears, jewels, and ball bearings, all working together for smooth operation. What stands out is the way energy is transferred: a magnetic system connects the traditional movement to the oil-filled display above, so everything works without direct contact.

A lot goes on behind the scenes to keep the watch stable and reliable. For example, a compensating bellows system compensates for changes within the oil-filled chamber, helping the watch perform consistently over time. Setting the watch is also unique, as you make adjustments through the caseback rather than a traditional crown. This keeps the design smooth and uncluttered. Altogether, the movement is not only technically impressive but also truly different in how it rethinks the way time is told.

The TYPE 3 MN is now open for orders, with only 80 pieces planned for production, making it an exceptionally limited release even by Ressence standards. Priced at USD $54,500, this is the kind of watch that goes beyond simple ownership, representing a rare meeting of ideas between Ressence and Marc Newson, and one that will ultimately land on the wrists of a very small group of collectors who appreciate both its design and the story behind it.

$26 Million Ferrari Daytona SP3 ‘Tailor Made’ Becomes Ferrari’s Most Expensive New Car Sold at Auction

  • The one-of-a-kind Ferrari Daytona SP3 ‘Tailor Made’ sets a new record as the most expensive new Ferrari ever sold at USD $26 million.
  • Powered by an unchanged 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12, producing 829 horsepower and accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 2.85 seconds.
  • Tailor Made interior features recycled Q-Cycle fabric alongside Formula 1–derived carbon fibre components.
  • Features a two-tone exterior with Giallo Modena paint and exposed carbon fibre, and the Ferrari logotype used as a livery for the first time on a road car.

Ferrari originally limited the Daytona SP3 to 599 cars, a number chosen to underline its exclusivity within the Icona series, but behind the scenes, the story took an unexpected turn. Without public announcement, the brand went on to build one additional car through its ‘Tailor Made’ programme, creating a true one-off that sat outside the official production run. This special 600th Daytona SP3 was later offered at auction through RM Sotheby’s during Monterey Car Week, with the sale carried out in support of charity, adding extra meaning to an already rare car.

What followed was an intense bidding battle that quickly pushed the final figure well beyond initial expectations, eventually reaching USD $26 million when the hammer fell. This was seven times higher than the pre-sale estimate and set a new record for the highest price ever paid for a new Ferrari at auction. While it still sits well below the all-time auction record held by the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé, and is some distance from the most expensive Ferrari ever sold—the 1962 330 LM / 250 GTO—the price is nonetheless extraordinary for a modern Ferrari, underscoring how much value collectors now place on ultra-rare, contemporary models.

The two-tone exterior features Ferrari’s full logotype across one side of the body finished in Giallo Modena, marking the first time a Ferrari road car has used the brand name as a central design element. The opposite side is left exposed in carbon fibre, creating a striking contrast that may divide opinion but carries significant meaning, reinforcing the idea that this Daytona SP3 was designed to stand out rather than blend in.

The Daytona SP3 remains entirely original, meaning the car is mechanically identical to how Ferrari intended it when it debuted. The naturally aspirated, mid-mounted 6.5-litre V12 continues to produce 829 horsepower, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that delivers power without any hybrid assistance. Performance figures remain staggering, with the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h completed in 2.85 seconds and 200 km/h reached in 7.4 seconds, and that’s just a taste of Ferrari’s commitment to high-revving engines, which still hold enormous appeal in an increasingly electric vehicle world.

That purity of engineering sits beneath a design that looks deliberately to Ferrari’s endurance racing heritage. The Daytona SP3 takes clear inspiration from the brand’s 1960s Sport Prototypes, especially the Mauro Forghieri-designed Ferrari 330 P4, a car remembered for its raised front guards and flat rear profile. These design cues are directly reflected in the SP3’s silhouette, paying visual homage to the same model that contributed to Ferrari’s historic finish at the 1967 24 Hours of Daytona, alongside the Ferrari 412 P.

Inside the cabin, Ferrari’s Tailor Made programme enhances the experience with bespoke details that reflect the exterior’s two-tone exposed carbon fibre and Giallo Modena finish. The interior showcases extensive carbon-composite elements, while the upholstery is trimmed in Q-Cycle fabric made from recycled tyres, complemented by yellow seatbelts and Prancing Horse embroidery stitched into each headrest. Finishing touches include a subtle checkered flag pattern incorporated into the instrument binnacle and steering column, crafted from a specialised carbon fibre used by Scuderia Ferrari in Formula One, establishing a direct link between the road car and the race team.

Carrying the serial number 599+1, this one-off Daytona SP3 quietly extends the sold-out Icona Series by a single unit, effectively closing the chapter on a model already set to become a collector’s item. When the SP3 first launched in 2021, pricing started at around USD $2.2 million before options and on-road costs, a figure that only adds context to the extraordinary auction result achieved by this unique Tailor Made example.

A Ferrari of this stature rarely comes alone, and the Daytona SP3 ‘Tailor Made’ was sent with a collection of items designed to match the same level of care and attention as the car itself. The highlight is a Maranello Clutch, an accessory inspired by Ferrari’s design language, finished with an adjustable chain strap and lined in Giallo Modena Q-Cycle ultrasuede, the same recycled material used inside the cabin.

Alongside the clutch, the buyer received a complete set of ownership items, including the official window sticker, owner’s manual and warranty documentation, a dedicated toolkit, battery conditioner, and a fitted cover set. Each item reinforces the sense that this SP3 was delivered as a fully curated package rather than a single headline-grabbing object.

Beyond its physical features, the sale gained extra significance due to its charitable purpose. Ferrari confirmed that the car was donated specifically for this auction, with all proceeds going to The Ferrari Foundation, a registered public charity supporting future educational initiatives, ensuring that this record-breaking Daytona SP3 leaves a lasting legacy beyond the collector community.
