At Watches and Wonders 2025, IWC has once again expanded the Ingenieur family with the most iconic sports watches to ever evolve.

This year’s collection offers something for almost every type of collector. If there was one Ingenieur that stole the spotlight at Watches and Wonders 2025, it was undoubtedly the Ingenieur Automatic 40 Ref. IW328702. For the first time, IWC has crafted the entire watch—from the 40mm case and integrated bracelet to the bezel and crown—in 18-carat 5N gold. Paired with the collection’s signature black “Grid” dial, the warm gold and deep black create a confident presence without feeling overdone. It’s luxurious, but still unmistakably an Ingenieur.

Despite its precious-metal construction, the watch remains true to Gérald Genta’s original vision. The familiar integrated bracelet, bezel secured by five functional screws and carefully finished surfaces all return, combining satin-brushed and polished finishes that allow the gold to catch the light from every angle. Around the back, IWC has also introduced a transparent sapphire caseback, a first for the gold Ingenieur, revealing the beautifully decorated in-house movement beneath.

Powering the watch is IWC’s manufacture Calibre 32111, an automatic movement equipped with the brand’s double-pawl winding system and an impressive 120-hour power reserve. Visible through the sapphire caseback, the movement features circular Geneva stripes, blued screws, and a gold-plated oscillating weight, giving collectors something just as enjoyable to admire on the back as on the front. If there was one watch from IWC’s Watches and Wonders 2025 lineup that had collectors talking, it was the Ingenieur Automatic Black Ceramic. As the first fully ceramic Ingenieur, it takes Gérald Genta’s iconic integrated-bracelet design and gives it an entirely new personality. The 42mm case, integrated bracelet, bezel and even the crown are all crafted from black zirconium oxide ceramic, creating a stealthy, monochromatic look that’s lightweight, highly scratch-resistant and unlike anything else in the Ingenieur family, and we wouldn’t be surprised if it becomes one of the most talked-about releases of the year.

Rather than recreating the steel model in ceramic, IWC developed an innovative multi-part case construction to stay faithful to Gérald Genta’s original proportions while showcasing beautifully finished satin-brushed, sandblasted and polished ceramic surfaces. Inside beats the IWC-manufactured Calibre 82110, featuring the renowned Pellaton winding system with ceramic components and a 60-hour power reserve, visible through a tinted sapphire caseback. One of the most welcome additions to this year’s Ingenieur collection is the new Ingenieur Automatic 35. Not every collector is looking for a larger sports watch, and IWC has clearly recognized that by introducing three new 35mm references that stay remarkably faithful to Gérald Genta’s original design. Available with a silver-plated dial (IW324901), a black dial (IW324906) or in 18-carat 5N gold with a matching gold-coloured dial (IW324903), each model retains the signature bezel with five functional screws, the integrated bracelet and the distinctive “Grid” dial. Even at its smaller size, it still feels every bit like an Ingenieur.

What impressed us the most is that IWC hasn’t simply shrunk the case and called it a day. Every component has been carefully reworked to preserve the proportions, finishing and wrist presence of the Ingenieur Automatic 40, resulting in a watch that’s just 9.44mm thick and exceptionally comfortable to wear. Inside is the IWC-manufactured Calibre 47110 with a 42-hour power reserve, visible through a sapphire caseback. We can definitely see these becoming some of the most popular Ingenieur models in the collection, especially for collectors with smaller wrists or anyone who prefers a more understated luxury sports watch.

One of the biggest highlights in this year’s collection is the Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar 41. While the Ingenieur has always been known as IWC Schaffhausen’s luxury sports watch, this is the first time the brand has combined Gérald Genta’s famous integrated-bracelet design with Kurt Klaus’ well-known perpetual calendar in a stainless steel case. It’s a combination collectors have wanted to see for years, and IWC has brought the two styles together without losing the clean, focused look that defines the Ingenieur.

Housed in a 41.6mm stainless steel case, the watch is easy to recognize thanks to its striking blue “Grid” dial, now improved with three beautifully finished sunray sub-dials displaying the day, date, and month, plus a very accurate perpetual moon phase.

Even with one of watchmaking’s most respected features added, mostly because of Kurt Klaus’ clever calendar system, which links all the displays through the crown, letting you adjust all calendar functions very easily. It’s one of those features that looks very complex but is surprisingly simple to use.

Inside is the IWC-made Calibre 82600, which features the brand’s Pellaton winding system, durable ceramic components, and a 60-hour power reserve, all visible through the clear sapphire caseback. For us, this is one of the most complete Ingenieur models released at Watches and Wonders 2025. It combines Gérald Genta’s classic sports-watch design with one of IWC Schaffhausen’s greatest technical achievements, resulting in a watch that feels just as fitting in a boardroom as in any serious watch collection.

The Ingenieur 40 mm green-dial watch might be the best-known in this year’s collection, especially among motorsport fans. Inspired by the custom Ingenieur worn by Brad Pitt’s character, Sonny Hayes, in the F1® film, this limited edition of 1,000 pieces brings the watch from the movie to your wrist.

In fact, sharp-eyed watch fans had already seen Brad Pitt wearing the green-dial Ingenieur during filming at the Daytona International Speedway in 2024, long before IWC officially showed it at Watches and Wonders.
