The first footage from Masters of the Universe already makes it clear that the movie is not holding back on the fantasy side of Eternia. The trailer reportedly opens on Earth, where Prince Adam, played by Nicholas Galitzine, has grown up after crash-landing there as a child. Unlike many other “hero from another planet” stories, Adam already knows he comes from Eternia and has spent years searching for answers connected to the legendary Power Sword of Grayskull.
Once the trailer shifts towards Eternia, the movie’s scale really starts to show. One of the biggest talking points is the first real look at Jared Leto as Skeletor, who appears far closer to the classic animated version than many fans expected. Instead of toning the character down, the movie seems to fully accept the glowing magic, oversized armour and dramatic fantasy style for which the franchise is known. Everything looks loud, colourful, and intentionally larger-than-life, which honestly feels like the right approach for a franchise built around giant warriors, magical swords, and skeleton-faced villains ruling entire worlds.
The trailer also gives fans their first look at several major characters from Eternia. Camila Mendes appears as Teela, while Idris Elba takes on the role of Man-At-Arms alongside Morena Baccarin as the Sorceress. Combined with Nicholas Galitzine stepping into the role of He-Man, the footage already feels like Universal is aiming to turn Masters of the Universe into a full-fledged fantasy franchise rather than simply another nostalgia-driven reboot.
One of the biggest reasons Masters of the Universe has already grabbed so much attention is the cast. Universal has put together a lineup filled with rising stars, established Hollywood names, and actors who actually feel like they belong in the wild fantasy world of Eternia. Behind the camera, the movie also looks like it landed in solid hands. Director Travis Knight previously handled Bumblebee, and many fans are hoping he brings that same balance of action, heart, and practical world-building into Eternia. Since Knight also runs the animation studio Laika, there is hope the movie keeps some texture and personality instead of feeling overloaded with lifeless CGI. The score is also expected to stand out with Daniel Pemberton attached after his work on the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse films.
This also marks the first major live-action return for He-Man since the 1987 Masters of the Universe starring Dolph Lundgren and Frank Langella. From everything shown so far, the reboot looks fully committed to the strange fantasy energy that made the franchise memorable in the first place — giant swords, glowing magic, skeleton-faced villains, and all.
