Samsung clearly isn’t interested in slowing down when it comes to gaming monitors. After recently digging into Samsung’s wider 2026 Odyssey gaming monitor lineup — where glasses-free 6K 3D and a frankly ridiculous 1,040Hz refresh rate stole most of the attention — Samsung is back with another display milestone worth looking at a little closer.

Leading the latest launch is the 32-inch Odyssey G8 G80HS, which Samsung calls the industry’s first 6K gaming monitor. But it isn’t arriving alone. Samsung has also launched a 27-inch 5K Odyssey G8, new 27- and 32-inch Odyssey OLED G8 models, and a 32-inch Odyssey OLED G7, giving gamers several very different ways into the company’s latest generation of high-end displays. The new models became available to order globally from May 20, 2026.

The headline attraction is undoubtedly the 32-inch Odyssey G8 G80HS. Samsung has pushed beyond the familiar 4K ceiling with a 6,144 × 3,456 resolution, giving the display far more pixels to work with and extra screen space that can be as useful for multitasking as it is for gaming. Samsung positions it as the industry’s first 6K gaming monitor, making this more than another incremental Odyssey refresh.

And Samsung hasn’t sacrificed refresh rate to get there. The G80HS can deliver its full 6K resolution at 165Hz, while Dual Mode lets you drop to 3K and double the refresh rate to 330Hz. That gives the monitor two distinct personalities: maximum detail when you want to disappear into a visually rich single-player game, or considerably more speed when responsiveness matters.

Of course, driving modern games at 6K and high frame rates will demand serious PC hardware. That’s where Dual Mode becomes particularly useful. Rather than forcing players to choose between a high-resolution monitor and a high-refresh-rate one, Samsung is trying to squeeze both experiences into the same display.

Not everyone needs to jump to 6K, and Samsung has another option just below it. The 27-inch Odyssey G8 G80HF runs at 5K resolution and 180Hz, giving you plenty of pixel density on a smaller panel while still maintaining a refresh rate well beyond the traditional 60Hz or 120Hz experience.

Once again, Dual Mode is where things get interesting. Switch the G80HF down to QHD, and the refresh rate doubles to 360Hz, making it a much more compelling option for players who bounce between cinematic games and competitive shooters.

It also gives Samsung a nice middle ground in the lineup. The 6K G80HS remains the showcase piece, while the smaller 5K model offers a slightly different balance of resolution, screen size, and speed without abandoning the new G8 family’s high-resolution focus.

If pure resolution doesn’t get you excited, Samsung is taking a different approach with the Odyssey OLED G8 G80SH. Available in 27-inch and 32-inch sizes, it keeps a familiar 4K resolution but pairs it with an OLED panel and a fast 240Hz refresh rate. For gamers who care more about deep blacks, punchy contrast and fast motion than jumping from 4K to 6K, this could actually be the more tempting G8.

Samsung is also introducing its new QD-OLED Penta Tandem technology, which the company says improves brightness, efficiency and durability. Glare Free technology helps cut down reflections without sacrificing OLED picture quality, while USB-C can deliver up to 98W of charging — handy if you’re trying to keep a laptop-and-monitor setup relatively clean. The 32-inch model goes a step further with VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification, promising the deep blacks and vibrant colours you’d expect from a premium OLED display.

Across the new Odyssey G8 lineup, Samsung includes DisplayPort 2.1, AMD FreeSync Premium, NVIDIA G-Sync Compatible and HDR10+ Gaming. HDR10+ Gaming dynamically optimizes brightness and contrast in real time, while FreeSync and G-Sync compatibility help keep gameplay smooth and minimize tearing when frame rates fluctuate.

Then there’s the 32-inch Odyssey OLED G7 G73SH, which brings some of that OLED goodness further down the Odyssey family. It combines 4K resolution with a 165Hz refresh rate, alongside a rapid 0.03ms response time. Samsung hasn’t forgotten Dual Mode here either: switch down to FHD and the monitor can push all the way to 330Hz, giving competitive players considerably more speed when they don’t need the full 4K experience.

That’s what makes these two OLED options interesting alongside the headline-grabbing 6K G8. Samsung isn’t betting everything on resolution. The OLED G8 delivers 4K at 240Hz with the more premium QD-OLED treatment, while the OLED G7 pairs 4K at 165Hz with the option of 330Hz at FHD. Throw the 6K and 5K G8 models into the equation, and Samsung’s new Odyssey range starts to look less like a simple upgrade and more like a lineup built around letting gamers decide exactly where they want to prioritize resolution, refresh rate, or OLED picture quality.

The 6K G80HS is unquestionably the star, but Samsung’s latest Odyssey launch makes more sense when you look at the whole family. There’s the 32-inch G80HS delivering 6K at 165Hz or 3K at 330Hz, the 27-inch G80HF offering 5K at 180Hz or QHD at 360Hz, the 240Hz Odyssey OLED G8 in 27- and 32-inch sizes, and the 32-inch OLED G7 bringing 4K at 165Hz with the option to jump to 330Hz at FHD. Samsung also has plenty of reason to keep pushing — according to IDC figures the company cites, it holds an 18.9% revenue share of the global gaming monitor market and a 26% share of the OLED gaming monitor market.

The new Odyssey models became available to order in the U.S. on May 19, 2026, with the flagship 32-inch G80HS priced at USD $1,599.99. The 27-inch G80HF comes in at $949.99, while the 32-inch and 27-inch OLED G8 models are $1,299.99 and $1,099.99, respectively. The 32-inch OLED G7 is also $1,099.99. For most gamers, 4K certainly isn’t going anywhere, but Samsung’s new lineup gives us a good glimpse of what’s next — whether that’s 5K and 6K resolution, seriously fast OLED panels, or monitors that can switch between outright detail and outright speed.

Every edition of Watches and Wonders brings exciting new releases, but few brands create as much excitement as Grand Seiko. Known for combining centuries of Japanese craftsmanship with the latest technology, the company has earned a reputation for constantly improving mechanical accuracy. This year, Grand Seiko revealed the new Spring Drive Calibre 9RB2—a movement that introduces the Ultra Fine Accuracy (U.F.A.) label and sets a new standard for precision in mainspring-powered wristwatches.

More than a new movement, the Spring Drive Calibre 9RB2 marks the next step in Grand Seiko’s quest for accuracy, innovation, and quality. Offering an annual accuracy of ±20 seconds, it is the brand’s most precise Spring Drive movement to date. This underscores why Grand Seiko is one of the industry’s true innovators. Whether you are a seasoned collector or discovering luxury watchmaking for the first time, this release deserves your attention.

  • Winding Mechanism: Automatic With Manual Winding
  • Accuracy: ±20 Seconds Per Year (±3 Second Per Month)
  • Number Of Jewels: 34 Jewels
  • Power Reserve: 72 Hours

The Spring Drive Calibre 9RB2 debuted at Watches and Wonders 2025, introducing what Grand Seiko calls Ultra Fine Accuracy (U.F.A.). Delivering an astonishing ±20-second annual accuracy, it sets a new benchmark as the most accurate mainspring-powered wristwatch movement ever created. Achieving this remarkable level of precision required a complete rethink of the brand’s three-month-aged quartz oscillator, a newly developed temperature-compensating integrated circuit, and, for the first time in a Spring Drive movement, a regulation switch that allows watchmakers to fine-tune the calibre during servicing.

The Calibre 9RB2 debuts inside two new Evolution 9 Collection timepieces: the SLGB001 in Platinum 950 and the SLGB003 in High-Intensity Titanium. Both feature Grand Seiko’s striking Ice Forest dial, inspired by the frost-covered woodlands surrounding the Shinshu Watch Studio, where every Spring Drive watch is meticulously crafted.

Beyond its incredible accuracy, the movement offers a 72-hour power reserve, 34 jewels, and a compact 30 mm architecture that allows Grand Seiko to create smaller, more wearable cases without compromising performance. Combined with the brand’s Offset Magic Lever winding system and robust One-piece Center Bridge construction, the Calibre 9RB2 is another demonstration of Grand Seiko’s ability to blend traditional Japanese craftsmanship with cutting-edge engineering.

Its striking Ice Forest dial draws inspiration from the frost-covered forests of the Kirigamine Highlands in winter. Delicate blue tones and a textured pattern recreate ice clinging to the trees. Tempered blue hands and diamond-cut indexes enhance legibility and elegance. The 37 mm Platinum 950 Evolution 9 case is paired with a crocodile leather strap. Crafted from High-Intensity Titanium, the 37 mm timepiece delivers the same industry-leading ±20 seconds per year accuracy while offering a noticeably lighter and more comfortable wearing experience. The titanium case and bracelet are around 30% lighter than stainless steel, yet provide enhanced scratch and corrosion resistance for everyday wear.

Like its platinum sibling, the SLGB003 features Grand Seiko’s captivating Ice Forest dial, inspired by the frost-covered trees surrounding the Shinshu Watch Studio in Japan’s Kirigamine Highlands. Besides the impressive movement, the SLGB003 offers several useful upgrades for Grand Seiko fans. It features a new three-step micro-adjustment clasp that lets you adjust the bracelet size in 2 mm increments without tools, making it one of the brand’s easiest-to-wear Evolution 9 models so far.

Recognized as the official flower of Iwate Prefecture, where the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi is located, the kiri blooms in soft shades of purple each spring. Its elegant lavender dial is paired with Grand Seiko’s signature Mt. Iwate pressed pattern, recreating the mountain’s distinctive ridges as seen from the studio where every mechanical 9S timepiece is meticulously crafted.

Housed in the iconic 36.5 mm 44GS stainless steel case, the Purple Kiri is powered by the manually wound Calibre 9S64, delivering a 72-hour power reserve and the dependable performance for which Grand Seiko is renowned. With Zaratsu-polished surfaces, razor-sharp facets, and a dial inspired by one of Japan’s most cherished seasonal blooms, the SBGW323 is a graceful addition to the Heritage Collection—proving that exceptional craftsmanship and nature-inspired design can be just as captivating as the brand’s most technically advanced creations.

Inspired by the snow-covered slopes of Mount Iwate in winter, the Grand Seiko Tentograph takes its design from one of Japan’s most beautiful landscapes. Coming out in May 2025, the Purple Kiri features a unique two-layer “Snow Blue” dial that highlights the contrast between fresh snow and the mountain’s rough ridges. The raised Mt. Iwate pattern adds texture and depth to the dial, making it a highlight of this year’s collection.

The inspiration goes beyond the dial. Mount Iwate overlooks the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi, where the brand’s mechanical watches are crafted by hand. While winter reveals the mountain at its most unforgiving, Grand Seiko views it as a reminder to keep moving forward, simply describing its message, “Even if life is rough, we should live with determination.”

Powering the SLGC007 is the Tentagraph Calibre 9SC5, a high-beat automatic chronograph operating at 36,000 vibrations per hour (10 beats per second) with an impressive 72-hour power reserve. Finished in a lightweight 43.2 mm High-Intensity Titanium case with a black ceramic bezel, the watch pairs everyday wearability with Grand Seiko’s signature approach to mechanical watchmaking—combining technical precision with designs rooted in Japan’s natural landscape.

Tokyo Lion Tentagraph

  • Brand: Grand Seiko
  • Model: Tokyo Lion Tentagraph
  • Reference: SLGC009
  • Diameter: 43 mm
  • Thickness: 15.6 mm
  • Material: Brilliant Hard Titanium
  • Dial Colour: Snow Blue
  • Calibre:  Calibre 9SC5
  • Power Reserve: 72 Hours
  • Water Resistance: 20 Bar (200 metres, 660 feet)
  • Price: USD $16,400

The Tokyo Lion Tentagraph marks a new chapter for Grand Seiko’s Sport Collection, taking one of the brand’s most distinctive designs and pairing it with its first mechanical chronograph movement. Inspired by the lion—a symbol that has represented Grand Seiko since its founding in 1960—the watch embodies the qualities the manufacture has always pursued: precision, durability, and beauty. At Watches and Wonders 2025, the Tokyo Lion evolves with a bolder, more refined design, built for high-performance sports-watch enthusiasts.

Every detail of the watch draws from its namesake, from its sharp, sculpted case features and claw-like lugs and bezel surfaces to the textured dial, which takes inspiration from a lion’s flowing mane. Grand Seiko also redesigned the chronograph pushers to provide a more satisfying tactile feel, and the three-dimensional sub-dials improve legibility by bringing the hands closer to their respective scales.

For the first time in the Sport Collection, Grand Seiko has crafted the case from Brilliant Hard Titanium. Brighter than conventional titanium and offering a surface hardness roughly twice that of standard stainless steel, the alloy provides excellent scratch and corrosion resistance without adding unnecessary weight. The newly developed rubber strap is equally impressive, offering nearly 2.7 times the tensile strength of the brand’s previous silicone straps, while a lion’s paw motif on the underside adds a subtle finishing touch that most owners will only notice when wearing the watch.

Powering the Tokyo Lion Tentagraph is the Calibre 9SC5, Grand Seiko’s first mechanical chronograph movement. Beating at 36,000 vibrations per hour (10 beats per second) and delivering a 72-hour power reserve, it combines a Dual Impulse Escapement, column wheel, and vertical clutch for precise chronograph performance. Every movement undergoes 20 days of testing—three days longer than most Grand Seiko mechanical calibres—to ensure it meets the brand’s exacting standards, even with the chronograph running that has defined Grand Seiko for more than six decades.
